Schedule of Events in the Old Kippenheim Synagoge, Autumn/Winter 2009/2010

Open Sunday afternoons from 2 to 5 p.m. from March 1st through October 31st .

Directions: take state road (Bundesstrasse) 3 to Kippenheim. At the old fountain in the center of town turn off into the Poststrasse, going toward Schmieheim. The synagogue is located on the left, about 80 meters/yards from the turn-off, set back somewhat from the street. Parking is available along the Poststrasse as well as in parking lots at the festival hall and behind the “Hufeisen” tavern.

Jewish Culture Day in Europe
“Jewish Life in Germany after 1945 – a Contribution to Post-World-War History.” Lecture with slides by Dr. Peter Wallach, Freiburg. Admission 4 / 2 €

Sunday, September 13th, 2009, at 2 p.m.
National Monuments Open House Day
Sites of former Jewish life in the Southern Ortenau. Cycling tour with Jürgen Stude. Meeting place: Old Kippenheim Synagogue.

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009, at 7 p.m.
Opening of the exhibition “Hitler’s Crimes” that was originally put together by the French occupation troops in 1945/46. Introductory talk by Dr. Clemens Rehm of the Baden-Württem-berg State Archives. The exhibition runs until October 25th. Open Sundays 2 to 5 p.m. or by appointment for groups. Admission free, donations welcome

Guided tour through the Jewish cemetery in Schmieheim. Please sign up by October 14th! Limited number of participants!

Sunday, October 25th, 2009, at 7 p.m.
Concert for the new Fulda synagogue
Hebrew Psalms, liturgical songs, Israeli and Yiddish folksongs. Linde Weiland, soprano, Fulda Jewish Congregation. Free admission. All contributions go to the construction of the new synagogue in Fulda.

Anniversary of the November pogrom of 1938.
“Silent Helpers in Baden.” Lecture by Angela Borgstedt of the Center for Antisemitism Research in Karlsruhe. Admission 4 / 2 €.

Memorial Day in Germany for the Victims of National Socialism
Commemoration service. New additions to the Ortenau Memorial Book for the Victims of National Socialism will be presented to the public.
